DER GRAUE REITER is a scout association that – taking responsibility for the present and honouring commitment to the past – seeks to create space for young people to live in a community of like-minded peers.

In small, self-chosen groups, each individual – from their own determination, in their own responsibility and inner truthfulness – shapes their life in the circle of their comrades. Through song, craft and play, on trips and at camp, they shall be able to develop freely, yet with inner discipline, according to their own nature. From their fundamental attitude and their will towards community, groups come together to form the community of the association.

DER GRAUE REITER adheres to the scout laws and stands on the ground of the democratic constitutional state. It rejects any denominational or party-political ties. However, every senior member of the association may, with due respect to religious and political neutrality, follow their own views.

In clear departure from scouting in its current form and in rejection of aimless wandering, DER GRAUE REITER seeks a path appropriate to our time within the German youth movement, with the goal of shaping young people in their responsibility to the community.

DER GRAUE REITER dedicates itself exclusively to genuine communal youth experience and the original creative impulse.
